Why Accessible Websites Matter

Accessibility isn't an afterthought for me.

The internet should be accessible to everyone.

Accessibility matters

Hi, I'm Seb. I built this website.

Accessibility isnโ€™t an afterthought here. Itโ€™s a core part of how I design and build websites. I follow best practices from the start to ensure that this website is usable, inclusive, and meets the WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines.

I believe everyone should be able to access and use the web, regardless of device, ability, or circumstance. That means you should be able to:

  • Use the website on older computers or with slower internet connections
  • Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate the website using just a keyboard
  • Use speech recognition software to move through the site
  • Access the content using screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver
  • Read all text with sufficient contrast and appropriate font sizes
  • Use core functionalities with ad block on

WCAG 2.1

My ongoing accessibility effort works towards conforming to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, level AA criteria. These guidelines not only help make web content accessible to users with sensory, cognitive and mobility disabilities, but ultimately to all users, regardless of ability.

This website is built to degrade gracefully meaning it still works if JavaScript is off, CSS fails to load, or you're using older technology. I also avoid intrusive pop-ups, flashing animations, or anything that might cause distraction or harm.

Continuous Improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. As technologies and standards evolve, I aim to keep this site up to date and accessible to all users. If you notice anything that could be improved, Iโ€™d love to hear from you.

Feedback is welcome: If you encounter an accessibility issue, or have ideas to make this site better, please reach out via my contact form.
